What is Kake Dameshi?
Rooted in the historical practices of samurai and early martial artists, Kake Dameshi (掛試し) translates as “testing through confrontation.” In the past, this referred to real or semi-real duels used to measure a fighter’s courage, technique, and readiness for battle. Far from being mere sparring, Kake Dameshi represented a test of spirit — a rite of passage for the serious martial artist.
Reviving the Warrior Spirit — The Modern Shiai
Kake Dameshi Shiai brings this ancient concept into the modern age, transforming it into a structured, safe, but intense form of competitive trial under the IKA umbrella.
